Chewang Norphel - The Iceman of India

Have you  heard of Iceman. I guess you haven't. But India have one real Ice man. He is Mr. Chewang Norphel popularly known as the Ice Man of India. He was born on 1935 in Ladak. He completed his civil engineering in the year 1960 in Lucknow and he joins rural government department. He retired from his service in the year 1995.
         While Chewang Norphel was in his government service he got posting in a remote backward area. With his determination he formed a group and constructed many things to the public such as schools, roads, canals etc. Due to remote area the skilled workers was unavailable there but it couldn't Chewang Norphel. With his determination he trains the villagers for the construction work.
          After his retirement he began a new project known as " Leh Nutrition project' for solving the issue of water crisis in Ladak. Due to the global warming water crisis is a major problem for the people of ladak in the summer season. He got the idea from he notices that flowing water freezes slowly and this can stored by diverting this flowing water to a pool and can be used when there is need for water. With his engineering skills he was successful in creating this Artificial Glacier in phutse. With his successful ability he was able to create 12 more glaciers which was low cost and provided water to an entire village. The cost of his project is only ninety thousand in hilly areas.
